National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as the ‘nation’s report card’,  is the leading national assessment of what American students know and can do in reading, mathematics, and many other subjects.  NAEP provides information on state and national student achievement, and how that achievement has changed over time.  The No Child Left Behind Act requires that NAEP assessments be administered in reading and mathematics at grades 4 and 8 every two years. States and school districts that receive federal funding to aid educationally disadvantaged students in high poverty areas must participate in these assessments.

NAEP provides teachers, parents, and students with information and practice items for NAEP assessments.
